Sien Vanmaele: Witlof from Syria
Vrijdag
Theater maker Sien Vanmaele uses her passion for cooking and theater as a means to
create social interactions and to subject herself and the world to a critical examination. This
also happens in her new food performance show Witlof from Syria. The question 'Do you
want to prepare a meal with me?' led to several encounters with people of Syrian origin at
their own homes.A woman is working in her kitchen. She's preparing dinner and reminiscing about past
encounters, trying to give them a place. Her introspections turn out as poetic, abrasive and
exceptionally honest. So how does it work, to really connect with people via a shared
passion? Are you able to move past bias and prejudices?Witlof from Syria is the moving impression of those kitchen encounters.
